What goes wrong on a Fire Magic grill

Why won't my Fire Magic grill light?

Usually the igniter, the electrode or the battery. Ignition is the repair we do most on Fire Magic grills. Depending on the model it has a rotary igniter or a push-button battery igniter: rotary igniters corrode, electrodes and their brackets rust, wires scorch, and batteries corrode in the battery box. We test the spark at each burner, then replace the igniter, electrode, bracket or wire that has failed.

Why are my Fire Magic burners rusted, or lighting unevenly?

Grease and rust have clogged or eaten the burner. Fire Magic's cast iron E burners and bar burners last for years, but their ports crust over and, in time, the iron corrodes away. Burners are the second repair we do most on Fire Magic grills. We drill out ports that can be cleared and replace burners that cannot, then check every burner lights blue and even.

Why is my Fire Magic getting flare-ups, or cooking unevenly?

Usually burned-out heat plates or flame tamers. They sit over the burners and take the most heat and grease, so they warp, crack and burn through. Then grease reaches the flame and cold spots appear. We replace the heat plates, often on the same visit as the burners, and on grills with briquette trays we replace the briquettes and trays.

Why won't my Fire Magic knobs turn?

A seized valve, or a worn knob. We free up and lubricate a stiff valve, or replace it if it is past that. Worn, faded or broken knobs get replaced, and on grills with lit knobs the LED bezels too.

Why has my Fire Magic infrared burner or rotisserie stopped working?

Usually a clogged screen, a failed element or its igniter. The infrared burner's screen cakes with grease and debris, and the element can fail. The rotisserie back burner and its igniter wear like any burner. We clean or replace the infrared burner, check its igniter and gas supply, and price the repair before we start.

Where to find your Fire Magic model and serial number

On recent Echelon and Aurora grills, Fire Magic puts the serial number on an aluminum tag on the grill body behind the control panel, and a second one on a label under the drip tray handle; the rating label is inside the control panel (Fire Magic manuals). Take the drip tray out and look under its handle. Send us a photo of it and we will find the part your Fire Magic needs.

Fire Magic parts we fit

From the parts we fit most, at your home:

  • Burners: cast iron E burners, bar burners and tube burners, for Echelon, Aurora, Regal and older lines.
  • Heat plates, flame tamers, briquettes and briquette trays.
  • Igniters: rotary and battery igniters, electrodes, brackets and wires.
  • Valves, knobs and LED knob bezels.
  • Infrared burners and rotisserie back burners.
  • Side burner valves and igniter knobs.
  • Hood lamps, grates and regulators and hoses.

For older Fire Magic grills we source parts from more than 100 vendors; a photo of the serial tag is usually all we need.

Fire Magic grill cleaning

Most of our Fire Magic jobs are cleanings. Our full cleaning takes your Fire Magic apart to its components:

  • Inspect: gas line, regulator, valves and gaskets before anything gets wet, and any sign that rodents have moved in.
  • Vacuum: ash, debris and anything nesting comes out first.
  • Degrease: hood, firebox, drip tray, heat plates, knobs and shelves.
  • The parts that take the heat come out and are cleaned separately: grates, heat plates, burners and the infrared burner.
  • Polish: the stainless inside the firebox as well as out.
  • Our 10-point tune-up: igniters adjusted, valves lubricated, regulator checked, burner ports cleared, new ignition battery, air shutters set, and more.

An infrared burner, rotisserie, griddle or side burner is cleaned and checked on the same visit.

Fire Magic warranty and authorized service

We are authorized to service Fire Magic grills. Still under warranty? Contact us with your model and serial number and we will help you through the warranty process. Out of warranty, we fix it and give you the price first.

New Fire Magic grills, fitted and installed

We sell and install Fire Magic. The consultation is free, at your home: we measure the space, photograph it, and come back with grills that fit. Installation is free when you buy the grill from us; in one island we measured an old Echelon and put a new Echelon E790i in its place. If the new grill is smaller than your island's cut-out, our GrillFitter® closes the gap; going bigger, we reshape the cut-out.

Fire Magic owners we look after

Most of our Fire Magic jobs are in San Diego, Carlsbad, San Marcos and Encinitas.

“They made Magic of my 25 year old Fire Magic grill. ... Replaced all knobs. New cast iron burner, ignitor, and 3 new heat plates. Like new again.”

Jim Markham, May 2025, Google review

“Hugo did a fantastic job with our 13 year old FireMagic grill. On time, worked non-stop, fair price for the work, great result!”

Asked about Fire Magic grills

Are you an authorized Fire Magic service company?

Yes.

We are authorized to service Fire Magic grills, from Echelon and Aurora to Regal and older lines, and we have done 900+ jobs on them since 2015. If your Fire Magic is under warranty, contact us with the model and serial number and we will help you through the warranty process. Out of warranty, you get the price before we start.

Do you repair older Fire Magic Regal, Custom and Monarch grills?

Yes.

We see Fire Magic grills 25 years old and more, and Regal, Custom and Monarch are lines we work on often. A new burner, igniter and heat plates often bring them back. We source parts from more than 100 vendors, including for older lines, and price the repair before any work starts.

Do you work on Fire Magic Echelon and Aurora grills?

Yes, they are the Fire Magic lines we see most by name: Echelon E660, E790 and E1060, and Aurora A530, A540 and A660, built-in and on a cart.

The usual work is a cleaning, then igniters, burners, heat plates, the infrared burner and the LED knob lights.

My Fire Magic clicks but will not light. What is wrong?

Usually the electrode is out of line, worn or corroded, or the igniter battery is flat.

On older grills the rotary igniter itself corrodes. We test the spark at each burner and replace the part that has failed, then light every burner before we leave.

Can you convert my Fire Magic to natural gas?

Usually, yes.

A Fire Magic set up for propane can often be converted to natural gas, or the reverse. We check the model first, confirm the conversion and the price, then fit the parts, set up the regulator and hose for the new gas, and test every burner.

How often should a Fire Magic be cleaned?

A full cleaning every one to two years keeps a Fire Magic close to new in looks and in how it cooks, and a light cleaning every six months in between keeps the grates and heat plates right.

Do you work on Fire Magic freestanding and countertop grills?

Yes.

We clean and repair Aurora cart grills and Deluxe countertop grills as well as built-ins. The parts and the cleaning are much the same, and we do the work where the grill stands.

Do you install new Fire Magic grills?

Yes.

We sell Fire Magic and install it free when you buy the grill from us, after a free consultation at your home. If the new grill does not match your island's cut-out, our GrillFitter or a reshaped cut-out makes it fit.

How much does a Fire Magic repair cost?

It depends on the fault and the part.

Send a photo for a free estimate, or we find the fault at the grill; either way you get the price before any work starts. Cleaning is priced by grill width, and a repair found during a cleaning is priced before we do it.
